About Boulder

Featured Story
Boulder, Colorado is a great place to visit
Welcome to Boulder, Colorado!

Boulder is located at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 5,430 feet and is just 25 miles northwest of Denver. Boulder is the county seat and most populous city of Boulder County with about 100,000 residents.

Boulder was incorporated as Boulder City in 1873, and the University of Colorado at Boulder opened its doors in 1877. Today Boulder is very popular among outdoor enthusiasts as it is surrounded by more than 36,000 acres of recreational open space, conservation easements, and nature preserves. The area is much-loved by rock climbers, mountain bikers, and hikers in particular.

Home of the main campus of the University of Colorado, the state's largest university, Boulder is considered one of the most liberal cities in Colorado. It has a colorful Western history, and was one of the top destinations for hippies and the counter-culture in the late 1960s.

The city of Boulder is home of the Boulder International Film Festival, Boulder Creek Festival, Colorado Chautauqua, which offers lectures, music, cinema, and adult education classes each summer, the Bolder Boulder 10K event, plus hundreds of events at the University of Colorado each year.

Among other distinctions, Boulder has been named number one of America's Top 25 Towns to Live Well by Forbes.com, one of the Ten Best Cities for the Next Decade by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, ranked #19 of the Top 25 Destinations in the US by TripAdvisor.com, #9 of the Top 100 Places to Live by RelocateAmerica.com, and earned the top spot in the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. Boulder was also named America's Foodiest Town by Bon Appetit magazine.

The community of Boulder offers something for everyone, from arts and culture to outdoor adventures and culinary delights. It offers exciting nightlife, interesting annual events and celebrations, a diverse population thanks to the presence of CU-Boulder, and is conveniently located within a short drive of Denver International Airport.
